Ross’s
Bull
When
our hunting season ended, we did our best to put out a very nice
newsletter / annual magazine. We tried very hard to be accurate and
truthful. We wrote it with the best information that we had at that
time.
This
year our hunters killed some great elk and we want to let everyone
know about it. We put the score of Ross’s bull in bold letters on
the front page of our newsletter as well as other advertising. We do
not have anything to hide and wish to be upfront with people. In no
way do we want to deceive anyone and that is why we are issuing this
retraction.
The
big bull that is on our newsletter and other advertising is not 418
B&C. Here is what happened:
Our
guides in camp measured Ross’s bull when we were still in camp and
came up with 420 inches. I did not want to go to print solely on our
measurement because we may be incorrect. A week or so later, I
called Ross on the telephone. He told me that a B&C scorer took
a look at the horns of his bull, put a tape to it, and confirmed 418
for a gross, green measurement. I asked him for a copy of
the score sheet and he told me that there wasn’t one, because
nothing is official for 60 days. Also, I was told that the bull
should net out somewhere around 395 to 398. This was all before
going to press.
The
official score that was taken on December 18 was a net 368. There
were 17 3/8 deductions and one of the points was never added in,
because it is considered an abnormal point. This abnormal point was
9 inches.
We
went to press based on the information we had at that time. We
measured wrong and came up with 420. This needs to be cleared up. We
apologize and hope our customers will understand.
No
matter what the score, this is a nice bull that any elk hunter would
be proud to take home.
Congratulations,
Ross, That is a great bull !
