One
place that you will want to visit when you are in Cody, just down
from the Irma
Hotel, is
the Buffalo
Bill Historical Center.
It is five museums in one and It is worth arriving one day early for
your hunt, just to check it out!
They
have a huge web site so I am going to give you the links to my
favorite parts of the site. They
have a very nice online
exhibition about the Thorofare.
It
just so happens that the “Thorofare” happens to be my favorite
place in the world - please take a look.
In
the exhibition, here are my favorites:
If
you only have time to read on thing here, you need to read the first
few paragraphs of:
The
Changing of the Guard by Craig Sax, North Cody Game Warden
Here
is another story that I recommend. It is A
Thorofare Memory: Saturday, October 12, 1997 by Tim Fagan.
Tim
is a game warden from Cody that frequents our hunting camp. He is a
great guy that I consider to be my friend. By the way, Tim can be 20
or 30 miles to the nearest road and he is always wearing a clean
pressed shirt. I am always impressed.
Another
story that I really like is Deep
Snow, Elk Migrations, and a Flag Raising Memories of a Special Trip
to Thorofare by Gary Brown.
Gary
is the Cody Regional Wildlife Supervisor for Wyoming Game and Fish
and he might drop into camp also to check your license. In the Fall
of 2007, Gary found one of our mules that disappeared and we feared
the worst. After maybe a week, Gary found him and brought our him
back to camp. Thanks Gary!
Also,
I don’t know how to link to this so I just will tell you how to do
it. From the stories listed above, you can click on a button at the
top of the page that says “Panorama”. You can then view 360
degree photos. The first photo is at the top of Deer Creek Pass -
this is what our hunters see about 4 or 5 hours into their expedition
on their way to the “Thorofare“.
