Preparation For Your Hunt
You
need to know that this is a physical hunt and you will need to be or
get in pretty good shape. You will be walking and riding horses and
/ or mules every day while you are hunting. We recommend that the
minimum requirement is walking at least 3 miles every day for no less
than two months prior to your hunt. We also recommend that you ride
a horse at least three times for a least one hour prior to your hunt.
These are minimum recommendations.
Getting
Your ELK Hunting License
In
order for you to hunt elk with us, you will need apply for an elk
hunting license. The deadline for application is January 31 and at
that time, your application needs to be in the Wyoming Game and Fish
office in Cheyenne. We will contact you in January and help you fill
out your license. The amount that you will pay to Wyoming Game in
Fish in January for a nonresident elk hunting license is:
Special Elk License: $1057.00
Application Fee: $14.00
Preference Point: $50.00
Total:
$1121.00
If
you do not draw a license, you will be given a preference point that
will help in drawing a license the following year. If you do not
draw a license, you will be refunded $1057.00 from WGF. If you draw a
license, you will be refunded $50.00 - the price of the preference
point. If you apply for an elk hunting license as stated above and
do not get drawn, we can hold your deposit for the next year or we
can refund the entire $500.00 - whichever you prefer. In March,
after you draw your license, you will need to pay half of the cost of
your hunt. In August, you will be billed for the balance.
The
odds of drawing this license are pretty good; however, it is not a
certainty. Most of our hunters should draw a license, but some will
not. By purchasing the preference point, you will raise your odds
much higher the following year. The license you will be applying for
is called a nonresident special elk hunting license and I need to let
you know that there is a regular non-resident elk hunting license
that costs $577.00. The odds of drawing this license are very poor
and if you want to put in for this license that is fine; however, I
can not take a to hold a spot for you because the odds of drawing
this license are very remote (unless you have maximum preference
points).

ABOUT
YOUR ELK HUNT
We
will provide all of the horses, mules, gear, food, wall tents, cots
with a foam pad and a wood burning stove in your tent. This is a
fully outfitted hunt. Alcoholic beverages are not provided. Our
staff will include a cook, a wrangler to care for the horses and
mules and a professional guide that will accompany you on your hunt.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided in our dining tent. You
will need to bring your personal gear including your rifle and ammo
or your bow and arrows as well as a sleeping bag, clothes, backpack,
ect. A detailed list of specific gear that we recommend will be sent
to you in March after you draw a license.
Just
to make sure that you are aware, the Cook, the Wrangler, Camp Jack
and your Hunting Guide normally get tipped by the hunters. You can
contact Jeff at 678-953-2026 to discuss amounts if you wish. You
will need to pay for transportation to Cody, WY. We will have a
special room rate for our hunters at the Irma Hotel - this has been
very reasonable in the past. You will need to pay for your room
prior to and after your hunt. If we are not in the mountains, we can
pick you up from the airport but if we are still in the mountains,
the Irma Hotel can pick you up from the airport. On the date of your
hunt, we will meet you at the Irma Hotel early in the morning and
bring you to the trailhead or if you have a vehicle, you can follow
us to the trailhead - there is plenty of parking. From the time we
leave the trailhead on horseback, it will take about 7.5 to 8 hours
to get to camp. Our camp is located in the Teton Wilderness and
special rules restrict the use of modern machines. In camp, there
will not be a chainsaw nor a generator. Our camp is very similar to
a hunting camp over 100 years ago. Cell phones will not work in
camp. We will have a Satellite phone for emergencies. On our 8 day
hunts, the first and last days are travel days to and from camp with
6 days of actual hunting. When your hunt is over, we will take you,
your personal gear and your elk horns, meat and cape back to Cody.
If you wish, we will take your meat to a processor and your horns and
cape to a taxidermist in Cody or Powell. From there, you will be
responsible for the fees and shipping of your meat and taxidermy
work.
UNDERSTANDING
YOUR DEPOSIT
Your
deposits and payments are not refundable EXCEPT if you do not
draw a Special Elk Hunting License. As much as you will be counting
on us to provide a great hunt, we are counting on you so that we can
pay our bills. For example, if you pay us a deposit, draw a license,
pay half of your hunt and then your spouse says that you can’t go
elk hunting or you can not get away from work because you have too
much business, I will not refund your money because all of the
nonresident elk hunting licenses are gone and I will not be able to
get anyone to take your spot. I just want to be 100% clear on this
so that there are not any hard feelings. You might want to check
into trip insurance if you think that you might not be able to go.
We
are not booking you at this time for your hunt. We are simply
reserving a spot for you. The actual booking of your hunt will
happen in March after you draw a hunting license. The $500.00
deposit will be applied to your hunt cost. If you have any
questions, please call Jeff at 678-953-2026.
I
have read this and understand and am in agreement.
